New round of projects receive FWI funding
A total of 29 projects have received Forward with Integrity funding in a recent request for proposals (RFP) to enhance and support faculty development at McMaster.
The successful proposals were selected from among 53 applications and touched on a number of themes including professional development and training, developing research capacity, experimenting with learning technologies and tools, and exploring new approaches to teaching and learning.
“It is critical that we continue to support and advance the academic mission of the University by developing the research, teaching and leadership capability of our faculty.” says Susan Searls Giroux, associate vice-president, Faculty and partner to this RFP. “The training, programs and activities described in these proposals will help to deepen the expertise of our faculty, enhance teaching and research practices at McMaster and ultimately provide a more meaningful educational experience for our students while enhancing our research excellence.”
A number of applicants will work with the McMaster Institute for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (MIIETL), also a partner to this RFP, to ensure that evidence-based approaches are used and that outcomes are broadly shared.
“MIIETL’s role is to support pedagogical innovation and advance faculty development across campus.” says Arshad Ahmad, associate vice-president, Teaching and Learning. “MIIETL will help faculty sharpen research questions and develop appropriate methodologies to gather evidence to help assess the impact and effectiveness of a given initiative. We want to enable faculty to have a multiplier effect in developing strategies to encourage wider adoption of successful interventions across campus.”
Each project approved for funding will receive up to $5000 in support through the Forward with Integrity funding. The total amount distributed for this round of projects is $126,608.
An additional $120,000 in Forward with Integrity funding has also been distributed directly to McMaster's six Faculty Deans for faculty development initiatives and activities that are consistent with the strategic priorities and current academic needs within each Faculty. Each of the Deans will determine the way in which they will use the allocation and will communicate this internally.
